What is an assessment and what is an audit?

An assessment and an audit are two different methods used in the business world.

An assessment is an evaluation of the performance of a company or organization with regard to certain criteria. The aim is to identify opportunities for improvement.

An audit, on the other hand, is a check that is carried out to verify compliance with rules, standards or regulations.

So it is completely different whether you are expected to take an assessment or an audit.

Examples of assessments are

  • EFQM assessment: Holistic evaluation of the organization and identification of opportunities for improvement
  • Process assessment: evaluation of the performance of business processes and identification of opportunities for improvement

Examples of audits are

  • Occupational health and safety audit: Checking compliance with occupational health and safety regulations and identifying risks and hazards
  • ISO 9001: Quality management system (QMS) audit: Checking compliance with the requirements of ISO 9001 for effective quality management
