Americans praise more
What the Americans do better…
Attention generalizing – but it has something!
U.S. citizens don’t do everything better than us German speakers, but…
They are better at thinking in terms of opportunities and show this by starting to praise as soon as they have begun to understand something.
When we German speakers come across something new, we immediately ask ourselves: What might not work? Where are the dangers/risks? I don’t know, I don’t want to. This way of thinking is good for quality.
The Yank: Wow! Amazing! Great! Special! Interesting! Let’s try it. Let’s do it. Let’s make it happen! This is the result of a culture that has moved on. Setting off into the unknown is a cultural heritage. A pioneering spirit and innovation thrive there. Not possible? – It doesn’t exist.
We think the Americans are naive and they think we’re messed up.
What you can learn in America is to praise and be praised. Let’s adopt a third of what they do over there and then we’ll be very generous.
Another aspect: If an American praises you generously, assume that he is doing so because a good relationship is important to him. He is less serious about the content of the praise. Just be happy about his kind intention. So: Oh, wow, thank you. I really appreciate it. Thanks again.
