UNSDG Goal 09: Industry, innovation and infrastructure

We use innovative technologies every day, especially smartphones, which are all networked via the internet. Using them is particularly enjoyable when the communication network is based on a modern infrastructure. Technologies and their infrastructures can make our everyday lives easier and improve our quality of life.

The 9th goal of the United Nations – “Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure” – focuses on building a resilient infrastructure that promotes sustainable industrialization and supports innovation.

The aim is to promote economic development that leads to a higher quality of life. This includes universal access to basic services and technologies. The aim is a future in which technological progress, infrastructure development, environmental protection and social integration are in balance with one another.

Organizations can make an important contribution to this goal. Three examples:

  • Technology companies: By developing sustainable and accessible technology solutions, companies can drive digitalization and ensure broad access to technological achievements.
  • Construction companies: More sustainable materials could be developed and used in the construction sector. Energy efficiency and low environmental impact could be important criteria in tenders alongside price.
  • Transport and logistics companies: The transportation sector could invest in more efficient and environmentally friendly means of transport. Innovations in this area can also increase the efficiency of the supply chain.
