What does delegation mean?

Delegating means transferring tasks. If it were easy, it wouldn’t go wrong so often. (Read the blog: Water the plants!) For delegation to work well, we have to make sure that the person taking on the task gets everything they need: Instructions, resources, etc. When delegating, we also want to ensure that the person taking on the task takes responsibility, that the result is right and that the framework conditions are adhered to.

Why is delegation important?

Delegation is important in leadership: after all, leadership means achieving goals with people. To achieve more impact, we need to delegate. The delegation meeting is much easier than the criticism meeting or a negotiation, as it is free of clinching. The delegation discussion is simple – although not easy – and it is a very important leadership discussion.

Delegation is also important for non-executives. Strictly speaking, everyone manages projects and assigns tasks to others, e.g. colleagues or external service providers. As private individuals and family members, we also delegate things in order to relieve ourselves and involve others.
