What is knowledge and when is it valuable?

Knowledge is a combination ofinformation and experience.

Knowledge is like a good wine – it matures over time. But unlike wine, knowledge loses value if it is not constantly renewed. This knowledge is in our heads and increasingly also in our computers and programs.

It is worth its weight in gold if it is up-to-date, securely stored and easily accessible to everyone in the company. Think, for example, of the best recipe for bread rolls that a baker always has in the drawer.

In a company where everyone works on several fronts and you can’t always ask colleagues from the other office or workshop, it is particularly important that knowledge is well organized. Especially when there is a shortage of good people, everyone in the company should know where to find which information and how to pass it on.

It is always smart to think outside the box when it comes to knowledge. Because at least one person in this world has certainly thought about your problem in some way and developed solutions for it. So always look for inspiration and learn from it, e.g. online. The personal exchange with like-minded people also helps. Networks such as industry meetings or local business meetings can help you.

And one final tip: In our digital age, where every second term begins with ‘smart’ or ‘artificial intelligence’, we shouldn’t blindly believe everything we read on the internet. We call this critical questioning of sources and information ‘media literacy‘. People often just want to influence us to buy something or trust a person.

Always ask yourself why the source wants me to know this.
