Advantages of digitization
Digitalization is indispensable today and permeates almost every area of our lives. Digital technologies make our everyday lives more convenient, more efficient and safer. Whether at home, on the road or at work – digitalization is omnipresent and we often take the benefits for granted.
One key advantage is the almost limitless access to knowledge and information. Thanks to digitalization, we can learn and develop ourselves anytime and anywhere. Almost every book, every movie and every piece of music is just a click away. Our communication has also changed fundamentally as a result: With just a few taps, we are connected with people around the world in real time. Artificial intelligence as part of digital development relieves us of tedious tasks, provides us with valuable information and increases the efficiency of our work.
The importance of digitalization becomes particularly clear in times of crisis. Without digital technologies, we would hardly have been able to overcome the coronavirus pandemic so successfully. Novel vaccines were developed quickly with digital support, and efficient evidence for regular monitoring was possible. In addition, home office solutions and online education services have kept everyday life going during the lockdowns. Delivery services, streaming platforms and online shopping have offered us convenience and distraction when much else was at a standstill.
One aspect that is often overlooked is the immense increase in prosperity made possible by digitalization – regardless of traditional prosperity indicators such as gross domestic product (GDP). Many previously expensive or cumbersome services and products are now available at low cost or free of charge. Digital alternatives and innovations have replaced expensive solutions and ensure a quality of life that was unimaginable for previous generations. Digitalization is therefore much more than a technical development; it enriches our lives on many levels.
